Privacy Policy

Overview

img-compress is an image compression tool that runs entirely in your browser. Your image files are never uploaded, transmitted, or stored on any server — compression happens locally on your device using your browser's own processing power.

Your images

We have no access to the images you compress. They are read directly from your device into your browser's memory, processed locally, and never leave your device unless you choose to download the result. We cannot see, store, or recover them.

Data we may collect

If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics (via Google Tag Manager) to understand how the site is used — pages visited, approximate location from your IP address, and device or browser type. If you accept advertising cookies, Google AdSense may use cookies to show and measure ads, including personalized ads based on your browsing activity. Neither of these has any access to the images you compress.

Cookies

We use the following categories of cookies:

  • Necessary — remembers your cookie preference. Always active, since it's what lets us respect your choice.
  • Analytics — Google Analytics / Google Tag Manager, used to measure site traffic. Only set if you accept.
  • Advertising — Google AdSense, used to serve and measure ads. Only set if you accept.

Third-party services

We use Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, and Google AdSense. These services may set their own cookies and process data according to Google's own privacy policy. If you're in the EU/EEA, UK, or Switzerland, some of this data may be transferred to Google's servers in the United States; Google self-certifies under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (and its UK and Swiss extensions) as the legal basis for that transfer.

Data retention

We don't operate our own servers or databases that store personal data — there's nothing here to retain. Analytics and advertising data collected through Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, and Google AdSense is retained according to Google's own retention settings; see Google's privacy policy for specifics. Your cookie preference itself is stored only in your browser's local storage, under your control, until you clear it.

Your rights under GDPR

If you're located in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate data, request deletion, restrict or object to certain processing, receive your data in a portable format, and lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Because we don't operate servers that store personal data ourselves, most of these requests are best directed to Google directly for data tied to your Google Analytics or Ads identifiers, through Google's own account tools.

Your choices

You can accept or reject analytics and advertising cookies at any time from the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer. Rejecting cookies does not affect your ability to use the compressor — the core tool works fully without any tracking.

California residents

If you're a California resident, you have the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, which includes AdSense's personalized ads. Use the "Your Privacy Choices" link in the footer to opt out — it appears automatically when you're browsing from California. Opting out does not affect your ability to use the compressor.

Children's privacy

img-compress is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
