Why convert WebP back to JPG?
WebP is the better format in almost every way, but "better" doesn't always mean "accepted everywhere" — older software, some print services, marketplaces, and government forms still reject WebP outright or handle it awkwardly. Converting to JPG is the safer bet whenever someone else, or some other system, needs to open the file.
If the WebP has a transparent background, converting to JPG fills it in with a solid color instead — JPG doesn't support transparency. If that matters for your image, use PNG as the output instead.
How to convert WebP to JPG or PNG →What the conversion changes, and what it doesn't
Three things are worth knowing before you convert. First, this is a second lossy pass: the WebP was already compressed, and the JPG re-compresses what came out of it. At a sensible quality setting you won't see it, but it's why you should always convert from the original export if you still have one, rather than from a file that has already been round-tripped.
Second, transparency does not survive. JPG has no way to store an alpha channel, so a transparent background is filled with solid white — permanently, and with no warning. If the image is a logo, an icon or a screenshot with a cut-out background, convert to PNG instead.
Third, the metadata goes. EXIF data — camera model, capture date, and often GPS coordinates — is not carried across, because the conversion decodes the image and re-encodes it from raw pixels. That's usually a small privacy win, and occasionally an annoyance if you were relying on those fields.
Where WebP still gets turned away
Every browser still receiving updates displays WebP without complaint, so if the file is only ever going to be viewed on a web page, you don't need this conversion. The friction is elsewhere: displaying a format and accepting an upload of it are two different problems, and the second one is far from settled.
The places that still reject it are consistent. Government portals, job application systems, and insurance or banking forms often validate uploads against a hardcoded list of JPG and PNG. Print services — photo printing, business cards, anything that ends on paper — generally want JPG or TIFF. A number of email clients won't render an inline WebP, so a newsletter image arrives as a broken box. And office suites, older design tools and internal corporate software of a certain age simply don't know the format.
Picking a quality setting
The default of 80 is the right starting point for photographs and you can usually leave it alone. If the result needs to be as close to the source as possible — a client deliverable, an image that will be edited further — push it to 90 rather than 100: quality 100 is by far the most expensive setting and almost nobody can distinguish it from 95.
Going the other way is where you should be careful. Because the WebP was already lossy, dropping the JPG quality much below 70 stacks two rounds of compression on top of each other, and the artifacts of the first one become the input to the second. If the file needs to be dramatically smaller, resizing it is a cheaper way to get there than pushing the quality down.

Will the JPG look worse than the WebP?
Slightly, in the strict sense — it's a second lossy encode, so a little detail is lost that can't come back. At the default quality of 80 it isn't visible at normal viewing size on a photograph. Where you would notice is on flat colour and sharp text, which JPG handles poorly regardless of settings; for that kind of image, convert to PNG instead.
What happens to a transparent background?
It gets filled with solid white, and there is no way to recover it from the JPG afterwards. JPG has no alpha channel at all. If your WebP has transparency you want to keep, use the WebP to PNG converter — PNG stores it exactly.
Can I convert a whole folder at once?
